QUESTIONS ABOUT WEB DESIGN:

What is a domain name?
A domain name is a unique web address on the interent. Also referred to as a URL (Universal Resource Locator).

What is a Web Host?
It's basically an internet landlord that rents out website real estate. The host is a secure, reliable computer server that stores your website and makes it available to the world. Check out our Hosting fees and options.

What is bandwidth?
The amount of data that can be carried from one point to another in a given time period (usually a second). Bandwidth refers to the number of visitors to your site and the amount of viewable or downloadable content.

What are Meta-tags Keywords?
Keywords are a list of words or phrases, seperated by a comma, that search engines use to find and catagorize your site. These keywords are placed in the code of your website and are not seen by the user.

What is a Meta-tag Description?
The description is what is displayed when your site is found in a search. It is usually a sentence or two that clearly defines your business and/or service.

We want a new website. How does the process work?
There are three essential components needed to have a website on the internet. First, you need a Domain Name. Once that is secured you will need a Host. And finally, you need a website. On our Website Development page, we briefly describe how to obtain all three in eight easy steps. You can also download our printable process guide here.

What is included in your website package?
Includes web pages, flash animations, web optimization of all images, internal and external links, custom style sheet, asp and cold fusion coding, forms, Google Analytics and search engine registration. Domain registration and hosting fees are not included in any website package.

Do you have a standard fee for websites?
No. We do not build plug-and-play websites. Each website is unique and can range from very simple to extremely complex. We will provide a quote for a new website solely based upon your needs and wants.

Where does the website content come from?
All content will come from you. All text and images to be provided to Larson Arts in digital format. We can scan your images at an hourly rate. Should you need a copywriter or photographer, we work with many third parties who can provide you superior work in a timely fashion.

How long will a new website take to build?
Honestly, a big part of the process is how quickly we receive the content and/or approval of proofs. Generally, if we have all the pieces, it roughly takes 2-3 weeks from start to finish depending on the size of the site. Larger sites take longer.

How much do additional pages cost?
Again, depends on complexity and amount of content. Additional pages begin at $200.

How do we make updates to our site? Can we make them ourselves?
If you have the software and the know-how you certainly can. If you lack either, we can make your updates based on our hourly fee and will provide a quote before work begins. Typical turnaround time on updates is 24-72 hrs. You will be notified once changes are live or a proof has been posted.

What are your website maintenance fees?
Web updates are billed at $40 an hour. Minimum charge is one half hour or $20.

How do we transfer our current site to your hosting?
There are two major steps to completing this transaction. First, you will need to access your domain registrar where you will input new DNS numbers that we provide. Then, provide us with your current FTP login information. We will retrieve your currrent files and post them in their new home.

What is File Transfer Protocol (FTP)?
FTP is a way to send files via internet. Files too large to email can be sent via FTP and downloaded by the end user. This would be file sizes in excess of 5 MB. Larson Arts has its very own FTP server if you need to send us a large file. Simply visit our FTP SITE. Additionally, we will need your FTP login information (if we are not hosting your site) to upload your website or if we are making updates to your existing website.

How do I set up my new email address?
Click here to download steps to email setup.

Do you offer Search Engine Optimization (SEO)?
We will optimize your site based on Google's W3C Markup Validation, add keywords and meta-tags based on information you provide. Once site is complete and live, we will register your site with the major search engines.

QUESTIONS ABOUT PRINT DESIGN:

I'd like you to create a design for me. What is your process?
To begin, please describe your project. Make sure to provide your contact information and we will be in touch to discuss the details.

Do you design logos?
Yes we do. Identity development is one of our specialties. Please see our LOGO page for examples and information on our process.

Can you get my materials printed for me?
Yes. Over the years we have made many contacts who do beautiful work and offer us wholesale printing. We then pass that savings on to you. Sometimes the money you save on printing can actually cover our design fees. Simply ask and we will contact our vendors and provide you with a quote.

I would like to get a piece redesigned or updated. Can you help me with that?
Of course! We would need to receive the text and images in digital format.

My company needs a fresh new look. How do we get started?
We will work with you to select a style that will best suit your needs based primarily on your industry and target audience.

QUESTIONS ABOUT LOGO DESIGN:

What do you charge for logo design?
$300 for a new logo. Logo recreation will depend on the complexity of present logo.

How many drafts do I get and how does your logo process work?
To begin, you would provide us with your preferences and any examples you like for reference. With that information, we will create three black and white designs. You could choose one of those, alter one of them or we do 3 more, up to a total of 9 logo designs. Additional logos beyond the initial 9 are $40 each. Once we nail down the black and white logo, we move to incorporating color. When your color logo is chosen, we'll send you an invoice for the project. After payment received, we'll provide you with the final art on CD. For more information, please see our LOGO page.

After a logo is selected, what will I receive?
You will receive two CDs (one for you and a duplicate for a vendor). The CD contains the final logo art in print and web formats, along with color specs and instructions for best usage.
